When your fleet arrives at its target, combat is resolved automatically. Your ships' attack power (modified by class, weapons research, and planet status) is compared against the defender's ships and their defence power. Both sides take losses. If a battleship attack succeeds, the attacker steals resources and stations from the defender. If the defender is left with 0 stations or 0 citizens, their empire collapses and is deleted after 24 hours. Keep your defences up — even if you're not attacking, others may be coming for you.
